Hurricane Preparedness Pack Program
Since 2007, Meals On Wheels of Tampa has been helping prepare our seniors and homebound neighbors for hurricane season. This year, we will be providing over 4,300 shelf stable meals, 850 gallons of water, shelter information and a radio/flashlight combination to all 850 program recipients.
Many of us have a plan for what to do when and if a storm hits. However, for many of the seniors and homebound throughout our community, there is no plan. This population is at a much higher risk of danger during a storm since they cannot leave their homes or gather supplies easily. The hurricane packs are vital and help provide peace of mind in case a normal meal delivery cannot be made due to a storm.
After experiencing Hurricane Irma last year, we are much more aware of how vulnerable our seniors and homebound are during extreme weather.
Our goal is simple. Continue to provide for those that cannot help themselves during severe conditions. These packs are free of charge and will be delivered to the recipient’s homes by volunteers on Saturday, May 19th.
Funds raised during Give Day Tampa Bay 2018 allow Meals On Wheels of Tampa to provide over 4,300 shelf stable meal packs, gallons of water and shelter information to all of our 850 senior and homebound recipients.
Funds collected on Give Day Tampa Bay will be used to support the Hurricane Prep Pack program, as well as general programming needs required to feed and care for our elderly, disabled and homebound neighbors.
